Double click on the setup.exe file to begin the installation.

Once loaded, you must choose which component of ipFax Center you would like to install on your computer by clicking the button labeled “Install ipFax Client” or the button labeled “Install ipFax Server”. It is recommended that the ipFax Server be installed first or that an existing ipFax Server is in place before installing the Client components.

The ipFax Server is the core component of the Silex Cubed ipFax Center. The ipFax Server accepts connections from the ipFax Clients and receives the file to be faxed.

[edit] Installing ipFax Center Server

1.) When you choose to install the ipFax Center Server, you will see the screen below. This screen is purely informational.

2.) Please read and understand the information contained in the End User License Agreement (“EULA”), as it is a binding license agreement between you and Silex Cubed for use of ipFax Center on your computer. In order to install any components of ipFax Center, you MUST agree to the EULA.

3.) On this screen, you need to enter the Serial Number that you should have received with your purchase of Silex Cubed ipFax Center.

Image:server3.png

4.) Once you have agreed to the EULA, the next step is choosing which directory to install the ipFax Center Server files to. The default directory is set to C:\Program Files\Silex Cubed\ipFax Center – if you would like to change the default installation directory, click on the Browse button.

5.) This screen gives you the option to change the default location of the Start Menu folder for the ipFax Center Server. If the folder doesn’t exist, it will be created and will be filled with a shortcut to the ipFax Center files.

6.) Confirm the installation information, and click install to continue.

7.) Special attention should be given to the following screens. More information and details about the settings can be found in the ipFax Documentation.

These settings are required to properly setup the server. For the COM port, you must choose which communications (COM) port your computer’s modem is using. For help finding the COM port, click on the Detect button. If no COM port is detected, follow the instructions provided with your FAX/Modem to make sure the device is properly installed.

The Station ID is the FAX ID that is sent to the receiving system. This ID is usually set to your fax number, but it can also be an alphanumeric identifier.

The Fax Directory is where all of your incoming and outgoing faxes will be stored. Once a directory is selected, the ipFax Center Server will create subdirectories within it to keep incoming and outgoing faxes separate.

Advanced users can configure the rest of the settings but it is not necessary. The “Use default system options” checkbox will automatically configure to system defaults.

The Access Management screen is used to set up which computers you will allow to fax. For security reasons generic names (i.e. computer1, computer2 …) are initially loaded on the list. These names must be removed and replaced by the computer you wish to allow to use the ipFax Server. If you are currently installing the ipFax Center Server and Client on the same computer, then your computer name must also be on the list.

The information you enter in this screen will be used for outgoing faxes. The company information will be printed on the automatically generated cover sheet along with a company logo if a client’s document does not already contain a cover sheet.

8.) Once the installation is complete, you will receive a message telling you to restart the computer in order for the changes to take place.

Once all the settings have been entered, click the Save Settings button to resume the installation. To complete the installation of the ipFax Center Server, click the Finish button and install the ipFax Client on the computers that are allowed to fax.
